Filstone-built swimming-pool distinguished in the Construction Innovation Awards 2016
The swimming-pool of the tourist resort Luz Charming Houses – a different type of accommodation facility that has reinterpreted the traditional constructive processes of Fátima – was distinguished at the Construction Innovation Awards 2016 in the Category of Materials and Products, at a ceremony held at the Auditorium of the Portuguese Engineers Association in Lisbon.
The swimming-pool, designed by the Segmentoponto4 architecture office, was built entirely using limestones from the Portuguese company Filstone, the extraction site of which is in Casal Farto, Fátima, in one of the largest and best national extraction sites of that type of sedimentary rock: the Estremadura Limestone Massif.
“The ten blocks of stone that gave origin to the final stone were extracted using a wire saw and were opened manually along the sedimentation lines”; according to architect Ana Alves, of Segmentoponto4, the result is a “natural and aged finishing”.
Created in 2014 by Área Associativa – the publisher backed by the online newspaper Construir and the magazines Anteprojectos and Projectista – the trophies aim to distinguish innovative Portuguese projects in this line of business.
