Filstone stone lion inaugurated at Sporting CP stadium
A lion in natural stone from Filstone was inaugurated next to the José de Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, on the 114th anniversary of Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP), celebrated on the 1st of July. The lion, sculpted from a 60-tonne limestone block, was made by Cláudio Monteiro, sculptor at Filstone.
The day was also marked by the symbolic handing over of a historic coat of arms to the Filstone administrator, Ricardo Jorge. The piece, which is part of the collection of the Museu do Sporting, was found in the excavations of the 'Bancada Nova' of the old Estádio José Alvalade, in 1983, and is now sponsored by Filstone.
